Summary:

As part of a dedicated team, the Water Treatment Plant Operator will work on a day shift basis and be responsible for safely and successfully operating and monitoring the electrical, mechanical, instrument and process equipment at a brand new Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) located within the site of an internationally recognised customer

The Water Treatment Plant Operator will be expected to monitor and control the plant and implement any necessary operational changes. The Operator would also prepare plant for Planned Maintenance tasks as required. The Water Treatment Plant Operator will also be expected to maintain analytical data into a computer-based system to record plant performance.

In addition, the Water Treatment Plant Operator is expected to be able to carry out first line preventative maintenance activities on the equipment with the support of a Computerised Maintenance Management System. This can include tasks such as cleaning of process instruments on a regular basis, changing over duty pumps and equipment as necessary and ensuring the process assets are in as good condition as possible.

All necessary training will be provided. Most work will be dayshift Monday – Friday but it is expected that the operator will work outside these hours if required. As part of this role, the applicant will also provide on call plant cover responding to any alarms and attending site, if necessary, out of hours

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work within the client and Company Quality, Health & Safety & Environment (QHSE) systems
  • Visible ownership on HSE issues at all levels both in the client organisation and internally.
  • Promptly raise any issues which could affect both the client and internally.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with customer personnel, Company employees and sub-contractor staff.
  • Innovate in the workplace to deliver Continuous improvement and exploit opportunities.
  • Identity faults, identify solutions & carry out basic repairs.
  • Gather all systems information and complete plant logs to understand the function and operation of the WWTP on site.
  • Carry out daily laboratory water analysis and promptly report any deviations to Site Management and Technical Team
  • Utilising plant information, identify any changes in system performance and/or potential operational problems and evaluate and make initial recommendations to return plant to its optimum operating condition.
  • Development and maintenance of good housekeeping practices
  • To work unsupervised with a proactive attitude
  • Develop good team working behaviours with the client and other Company staff
  • Undergo training as required and identify training needs
  • Lead by example
  • Take on additional responsibilities as the company may reasonably require.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Ability and knowledge to complete basic repairs and maintenance
  • A working knowledge of running electro-mechanical plant
  • Computer literate
  • NVQ Level 2

Required Skills/Qualifications (Desirable):

  • Experience of working directly with sub-contractors
  • To be able to demonstrate through previous work experience, an ability to interpret technical information to affect changes on the plant
  • Operational and maintenance knowledge of wastewater treatment plant
  • Demonstrate the ability to work within a quality system
  • Knowledge of Water and Wastewater treatment plants
  • Training in Environmental Health and Safety
  • Time served Technician/Fitter/Electrician/Mechanic

Working for us means: 

  • Salary Banding – Up to £34,000 (DOE)
  • Hours of Work – 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
  • Standby - £25 per day. Will be expected to be on standby 1 in 4
  • Overtime – will be paid at 1.5. When rostered standby, there is associated overtime on Saturday and Sunday (4 hours per day).
  • Holidays – 25 days + 8 statutory days
  • Probationary Period – 6 months
  • Pension – Can join immediately or auto enrolled after 3 months - Employee 5% and Employer 5% via salary sacrifice
  • Eligible to join Private Healthcare after successfully completing probation
  • Eligible for Death in Service benefit (4 x basic salary) and Group Income Protection upon commencement of employment
  • Notice – 1 week during probation, increasing to 1 month thereafter

Summary:

The Operations Manager supports the safe and efficient operation of water and wastewater treatment assets at customer sites. This is a development role designed for individuals with 2–5 years of relevant experience and those who are ready to take their first step into management.

Working closely with senior Operations Managers and the wider support teams, the Operations Manager will assist in ensuring compliance, reliability, and efficiency of plant operations, while gradually building responsibility for team leadership, contract delivery, and customer interaction.

The role provides an opportunity to gain hands-on management experience, develop technical and commercial awareness, and grow into a fully-fledged Operations Manager. We partner with a diverse range of clients across industries such as Food & Beverage, Aviation, Oil & Gas and Leisure as well as operate all the major water treatment processes so there is the opportunity for the right individual to gain significant experience in a relatively short period of time.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation of Quality, Health & Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) systems.
  • Actively promote a strong safety culture within plant operations.
  • Assist senior managers in responding to operational issues and incidents.
  • Work with Support functions (QHSE, Technical, Asset Care, Finance) to ensure smooth

running of contracts.

  • Monitor and report on site performance against agreed targets.
  • Assist in planning and scheduling of maintenance and improvement activities.
  • Contribute to the preparation of operational documentation and procedures.
  • Provide day-to-day support to operators and technicians; contribute to on-the-job training.
  • Build strong working relationships with customer contacts and represent the company professionally.
  • Support continual improvement initiatives that generate value for customers.
  • Participate customer meetings alongside senior managers, contributing updates and insights.
  • Take on increasing responsibility for aspects of budget monitoring, cost control, and small project delivery as experience grows.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as the company may reasonably require

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Background or qualification in (any of): Wastewater treatment, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Some exposure to supervising staff, contractors, or projects.
  • Understanding of water/wastewater processes and treatment technologies.
  • Familiarity with QHSE systems.
  • Basic experience with contract or project delivery.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a proactive, problem-solving mindset.
  • Enthusiasm for professional growth and long-term career development in operations management.

    • Hours of Work – 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
